THIS is what happens when WE decide to STEP UP as a community, come together and say “This is NOT okay!” and get involved to make a GRASSROOTS CHANGE!

As many of you know from previous posts, this lovely couple, Peter and Donniece lost their jobs in the restaurant industry and ended up living in their car for several months before finding out about @CenterofConcern and being placed into their own apartment. Another very sad component to this backstory is that Peter found out that he had cancer last year and put off treatment because he couldn’t afford it.

We wanted to make this extra special for them so, despite the fact that we don’t normally provide king-size beds, we made an exception and got one from our community partners at Sharing Connections Inc. in Downers Grove.

A BIG THANK YOU to our design leads Kathy Robbins and Roxanne Wendel Lostroscio who worked for several hours not only on the design consultation but also in the warehouse staging and making sure that this was perfect and tailored to what our clients told us. Thank you Kate Klimas Scovitch and Rosaria Becker for helping load the truck and to a SUPER FUN volunteer team Kristen Williams Pisani, Chris Pasiewicz Minasian, Interiors By Julie, LLC Sherry Macheel Kulhanek and Dee Hanley Bauer! A big thank you to Jason and Tom of Jason Huth Movers, Inc. for doing the heavy lifting on this one! (It was okay that you left when we started to make the bed )!
